Assume that you use offline files (client-side caching) on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. In this situation, the computer may crash when you try to wake the computer from Sleep (S3) mode. Additionally, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0x0000007F (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Notes:

  • Not all “0x0000007F” Stop errors are caused by this issue.
  • Parameters in this Stop error message may vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • This issue occurs if no network connection is available when you wake the computer.
  • This issue may be more likely to occur if the computer has remembered connections to Distributed File System (DFS) shares that contain offline files.

Consider the following scenario. You have a portable computer that runs Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008. You put the computer to sleep (S3) while the computer’s lid is open. Then, you close the lid while the computer is asleep. Later, you open the lid to wake up the computer.

In this scenario, the computer starts resuming. However, you only see a blank screen and a mouse pointer until you provide some user input. For example, this situation lasts until you press a key or click the mouse.

Note: This problem occurs only on certain computers.

After you resume a Windows Vista-based computer from sleep or from hibernation, you have one or more of the following problems:

  • A device crashes or no longer works correctly. There may be a yellow exclamation mark next to the device in Device Manager. Or, the device may not appear in Device Manager. The device may be a fingerprint reader, a Windows Media Center remote control, an optical drive, a FeliCa reader, or some other device.
  • After you resume the computer, you use the Safely Remove Hardware option to remove a device on a portable Windows Vista-based computer. However, in this situation, you cannot reconnect the device. After this problem occurs, the computer may crash when you try to shut it down or to restart it.
  • When you connect a USB device, you receive a “Stop 0x7e” error message that resembles the following:

    STOP 0x1000007E
    usbhub.sys
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

  • You receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

    STOP 127
    PAGE_NOT_ZERO_NVIDIA_USB

    This error occurs on a Windows Vista-based computer that has 2 gigabytes (GB) or more of RAM and an NVIDIA nForce EHCI controller.
